Estimated quilt completion size is dependent on the number of squares used. The student should know how to do the following: Follow directions Basic sewing machine skills Mark and cut fabric Basic construction techniques Pressing skills Exercise patience with yourself and others Supplies and Tools needed: Select up to 20 shirt sides for quilt. We may not use all of the shirts. It will depend on size of the design on the t-shirt. Prepare t-shirts: wash, dry and iron t-shirts Fusible stabilizer backing – Pellon P44F Fusible Lightweight Interface - $1.29 yard from Joann. (This is a suggestion. This will add some structure to your t-shirts.) Get a ½ yard per t-shirt Select Fleece backing fabric (This is a suggestion. We will not use batting as part of this class, however, if you want to use batting in your quilt, you can.) We will discuss how much backing you will need once you have decided on how big your quilt will measure. I have a quide on the size on page 3. Session 1: Gather t-shirts and cut to size Select 12 – 15 different t-shirt sides for the quilt Cut out the side that you want to place in the quilt Measure the largest design of the shirts that you want to use in the quilt Common square size is 12 – 14 inches square, but can be smaller or larger The sewn square will be half an inch smaller on all sides due to the seam allowance Session 2: Attach Stabilizer to t-shirts, arrange and sew together Measure fusible stabilizer and iron to each shirt Arrange the t-shirt in the order you want them to appear in your quilt.
